Pink Lily Bonnet

What could be sweeter than a Madeira edged bonnet with hand embroidered Lily of the Valley and pink silk ribbons to cover a precious little one's head? Imagine the most delicate pink gingham as the Madeira scalloped edge, the lovely two-toned green leaves, pink granito dots along the Madeira border with adorable pink buttons to attach the ribbon ties and you have a perfect, unique baby gift! This bonnet was featured along with the matching dress in Sew Beautiful (Issue 129). The machine/hand method is used for the Madeira scalloped edge, which is then hand pinstitched. A casing at the back of the bonnet makes it adjustable to fit newborns and infants up to 12 pounds.
Students will cut out the bonnet pieces, machine stitch part of it to include the Madeira preparation, hand pinstitch and hand embroider the motifs, then finish the casing by machine. Stitches covered in class are: Madeira (pinstitch), shadow work, outline, stem, chain and granito. This project can almost be completed in class. It is a 6-hour class and is approved by the Smocking Arts Guild of America.
